Painting that is not directly observable. What do colour, composition and form actually say? An abstract work goes beyond representing reality, it conveys a certain atmosphere and emotion.
In this workshop you will be presented with a situation that you will work on. What emotions accompany this situation and how can colour, composition and form translate this?
Under the guidance of visual artist Merel Jansen, you will then get to work. How do you convey a certain atmosphere and emotion on a canvas?
Together you will take the first step towards painting and learning to understand abstraction.
This workshop is open to everyone, even if you have never painted before you are very welcome.
About the instructor
Visual artist Merel Jansen graduated from ArtEZ/AKI in Fine Art Painting and the LUCA School of Arts in Ghent. In 2023 she was one of the winners of De Nieuwe Vermeer, a competition and television programme on the occasion of the Vermeer exhibition in the Rijksmuseum. That same year, Merel exhibited in Museum Arnhem, with her own interpretation of The Ghent Altarpiece by Jan van Eyck. Her paintings can be seen in museum MORE next February.
In the past period, Merel has worked with great dedication on abstract paintings, in which her fascination for the interaction between form and colour is clearly visible.
